Four years ago when I thoroughly enjoyed working on the Simpson Wedding Quilt, I thought it would be a great idea to post an informational web page about this wonderful keepsake.
Many people have inquired about the family directions and asked for advice. We can provide as little or as much help as you need. After four years, there have been a number of projects and we’d like to share a few with you. These are such wonderful keepsakes!
The Classic Wedding Quilt: Family members and friends are sent squares of fabric at least six month before the wedding. Specific directions are included along with fabric swatches to help with color choices. The objective is for the family member or friend to make a personal message or share a memory with the bride and groom. The variety of ideas never ceases to amaze! Hand embroidery, machine embroidery, fabric paints, photo transfers, fabric collages, and a variety of add-ons like charms, buttons, and lace. The basic family member directions are available by Word email attachment by email request.
Anniversary Quilt: Essentially the same as the classic wedding quilt but completed for a special anniversary.
The one pictured was a great second anniversary "cotton" gift. A poem written by the customer was embroidered onto squares for a custom quilt for his wife. All fabrics, thread color, and fonts were selected via email attachments while he was serving in Iraq.
Personalized Afghan Throw: As a special gift to the bride and groom, the wedding information and special message can be customized with favorite flowers or designs. The one pictured here has a profusion of Forget-Me-Nots, the bride's favorite flower.
Signature Quilt: Using signatures turned into embroidery, a quilt can be made for many occasions - graduation, anniversaries, signficant birthdays, etc. Makes a great lap quilt for someone special in a nursing home or going away gift for a family member living far away.
